Daily Freeman Article on NYC Watershed Negative Impact on Local Area

“It affects the fish having a chance to see food, it reduces their growth rate if they’re not getting proper nourishment from insects and bug life, and, during spawning season, it could affect the Redds (a shallow area where spawning takes place), which can adversely affect the future populations of fish,” said Ron Urban, president of the Catskill Mountains chapter of Trout Unlimited.

October 2010 – Zelon Caddis

This recipe was provided to us by Ron Urban!

A super floating caddis with a low profile in the
water is a deadly combination on creeks. Utilize this pattern
in the evenings when the tan caddis returns and mates
on the water with much success. It floats so well
that it can also be utilized as a strike indicator for
weighted nymph droppers doubling your chances
to catch trout.

Zelon Caddis
Hook/ size Tiemco 101 dry fly 14-20
Thread 6/0 Tan or Olive to match body color
Under Wing Tan Straight Zelon
Wing Bleached Coastal Deer Hair
Body Tan or Olive dubbing

Tying Instructions
1) Attach thread mid shank and wrap towards
the bend of the hook.
2) Dub body from bend to 2/3s of hook shank.
3) Attach straight Zelon as under wing to
extend slightly beyond the bend of the hook.
4) Attach coastal hair over Zelon under wing.
5) Whip finish head.

Welcome To Our New Website!

Welcome to the new site for the Catskill Mountains Trout Unlimited Chapter. As you can see it is currently under development and we are testing and getting used to all the new abilities.

As we fill in the spaces more will be offered, but the site will not be 100% until our new home is ready (hopefully soon). Once that occurs you will be able to reliably subscribe for email and rss updates!
