CMTU Women’s Initiative Event April 20th

Greetings Women of TU!

We saw our first stonefly of the season a couple of days ago. With the spring thaw approaching and trout season just around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to invite you to an upcoming event with the CMTU Women’s Initiative (WI). The goal of the TU Women’s Initiative is to ensure that women feel welcome at chapter meetings and included in projects and river outings. The CMTU WI is also working to actively develop women’s events at the chapter level and initiate new programs to provide meaningful engagement opportunities for women.

Join us on Saturday April 20th for our 2019 planning meeting and contribute to the Women’s Initiative of Catskill Mountains Trout Unlimited. Whether you are interested in fishing or coldwater fisheries conservation, beginner or expert, all women are welcome to attend. We will meet at Sweet Sue’s in Phoenicia for brunch at 10:30am, then from 12:00pm-2:00pm we will continue on to the Phoenicia Library across the street to generate and discuss ideas to grow the Women’s Initiative for our chapter. We will end the event by hitting the stream for some fishing if conditions allow. Rose, a chapter member, had this to say about the CMTU WI, “Sending you all a thank you for your support and guidance while fishing on Saturday evening.  It was very nice to meet each of you personally and spend time with women anglers.  I think you are all on the right track in this initiative to provide women an opportunity to meet, greet and learn from each other”.

Please send RSVPs via email to Jayne Henson at jaynehenson1986@gmail.com or call Anne Bloomfield at 518-894-6344 so that we can get a rough head count of how many to expect. RSVPs are encouraged  but feel free to come last minute and invite a friend. We’ll see you there!

Tight Lines,

Jayne and Anne

Jayne Henson is the Catskill Mountains Trout Unlimited Chapter Women’s Initiative Coordinator

Anne Bloomfield supports the WI and serves on the board of Catskill Mountains Trout Unlimited

While we respect and appreciate any and all support that the men of CMTU have to offer we would like keep participation at this event as a space for just female identified anglers and river conservationists. Thank you for being understanding.

Chapter Meeting Wednesday November 28th, 2018, Marriott Courtyard, Kingston NY, 6:30 PM

NOTE:   Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday our November chapter meeting  will move to Wednesday November 28th, instead of the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Our speaker this month will be Jeff Yates, national Director of Volunteer Operations for Trout Unlimited, on the Future of TU: Building Community Around Conservation & Fishing

TU has always been strong as an organization thanks to its collection of more than 400 local chapters and state councils working to improve local streams, educate local youth and engage local communities in our conservation mission.
Now more than ever, that model of thinking globally and acting locally is not only appealing to volunteers, but vital to the survival of wild and native trout in watersheds across the country.

Jeff, who lives across the Hudson River in Connecticut and has been a TU member since he was 11 years old, will discuss examples of how TU chapters like the Catskill Mountain Chapter are growing their impact and expanding their reach with a focus on building a community to protect local rivers.

CMTU October Meeting Wednesday, October 17th Courtyard by Marriott Kingston, NY 6:30PM

Chapter Members,

I hope you can make it to our monthly chapter meeting this Wednesday.

This months speaker will be chapter member Luke Rabideau, a science teacher at John Jay High School in the Wappingers Central School District. Luke will be talking about his experiences with our Trout in the Classroom program in our October meeting.  For Trout in the Classroom, TU provides schools with fish tanks, filters, aerators, and finally trout eggs, and then the students raise those trout in the classroom and eventually release the young trout into approved streams.  The program teaches kids about the lifecycle of trout and the importance of cleanwater. It connects kids to their surrounding environment and helps instill a conservation ethos.

If you know a middle or high school teacher who might be interested in having Trout in the Classroom in his or her classroom, please invite them to our October meeting on Wednesday October 17th at 6:30PM at the Marriott Courtyard in Kingston or have them contact the chapter at catskillmountaintu@gmail.com

Here is  a flyer to share.

CMTU September Meeting Wednesday, September 19 Courtyard by Marriott Kingston, NY 6:30PM

Hope you can make our September meeting this Wednesday. Our speaker this month is Morgan Lyle, author of Simple Flies: 52 Easy-to-Tie Patterns that Catch Fish. If you’re not familiar with Lyle’s work, you’re in for a real treat. I picked up a copy of Simple Flies at the Fly Fishing Show in Edson last winter and I’ve been reading it compulsively since. Morgan is currently writing a book on Tenkara. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say about that.

Check out our September Newsletter for information about chapter events and updates on the situation at the Blue Hole, the Delaware River oil spill, and other conservation issues.

Hope to see you at the meeting!
