{"id":1823,"date":"2025-11-01T12:56:01","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T16:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cmtu.org\/?p=1823"},"modified":"2025-11-03T20:01:35","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T01:01:35","slug":"esopus-creek-trout-spawning-survey-fall-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmtu.org\/?p=1823","title":{"rendered":"Esopus Creek Trout Spawning Survey Fall 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Esopus Creek Trout Spawning Survey Fall 2025<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Saturday, November 8th, 2025<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Since the new New York State trout stream regulations opened Esopus Creek to year-round fishing, there\u2019s been a lot of talk about the need to educate anglers about trout spawning beds, also known as redds, and to learn more about the distribution of redds on Esopus Creek.<\/p>\n<p>And as DEC\u2019s new Esopus Creek Fisheries Management Plan makes clear, there\u2019s a crucial need to understand spawning practices on Esopus Creek.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, CMTU will be conducting a spawning bed survey this fall. Knowing the location of spawning beds and habitat will allow us to prioritize conservation projects and to educate anglers so they don\u2019t disturb the beds, ensuring healthy populations of wild trout for years to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We need as many members as possible to come out for this conservation event!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Date: <\/strong>\u00a0Saturday November 8th<\/p>\n<p><strong>When: <\/strong>\u00a0 9:00AM \u2013 12:00PM<\/p>\n<p>Please register ahead of time at the following link so we can organize survey teams.<\/p>\n<p>Registration Link: <a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"https:\/\/tu.myeventscenter.com\/event\/Catskill-Mountains-Tu-Esopus-Creek-Redds-Survey-117568\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/tu.myeventscenter.com\/event\/Catskill-Mountains-Tu-Esopus-Creek-Redds-Survey-117568<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We will meet at 9:00 AM at the NYS DEC fishing access point on Mount Pleasant Road, behind the Emerson, where Bert Darrow\u2019s bench was dedicated, to sign in and distribute assignments to survey teams. We will then divide up the reaches across teams of 2 or 3 people. Maps will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>Bring your waders and boots in case you need to wade some sections.<\/p>\n<p>A post-survey event will be held at Westkill Brewery after noon for all that are interested.
